Linear Publishing is unsurpassed in the ability to change the site design - either globally affecting the entire site or on a page-by-page basis.

The Linear system allows you to maintain multiple horizontal and vertical menus, multiple background, multiple flags, ceilings, rail structures and more. You can literally redesign your entire site away from the public eye. Globally applying your changes takes about 15 seconds!

Our advice to clients is always the same - "Your web site is never done." No matter how much you like your web site today, you'll want to change it within six months. Linear will let you explore all the possibilities.

Lets walk through the layers of a Linear site. Each of these layers can be controlled globally or on a page-by-page basis.

Browser Window
First, you'll define the appearance of the window outside your site. Using colors and images you create the canvas on which your site will appear. Background images can be defined to repeat in any direction and either scroll or remain stationary as people move through the site.

Site
Next, you'll define the properties of your site within the browser window. Primary values include site width and centering. Using colors, images, margins, padding and borders you create the background for your site.

Some Elements appear outside the site. Ceilings and Floors (see examples) appear glued to either the top or bottom of the browser window (see above). Jumbo Ads (see examples) can be placed either above or below the site. Peel ads (see example) appear in the upper-right corner of the browser window.

Flag and Horizontal Menu
The Flag area appears across the top of your site. Please note that the flag may be disabled, located right of the Vertical Menu (see below) or embedded between the Vertical Menu and Rails (see below).

If your site employs a horizontal menu, that menu is usually embedded within the flag. The horizontal menu can be located in a variety of locations (usually bottom) within the flag.

When designing the Flag you will have access to the full suite of design tools. Primary values include height and status. Using colors, images, margins, padding and borders you create the appearance of the Flag area.

Often, Linear clients will place either Jumbo Ads (see examples) or Banner ads (see examples) within the Flag area.

Vertical Menu
The Vertical Menu area appears along the left side of your site. Please note that the Vertical Menu may be disabled or located left of the Flag (see above). In addition to the Vertical Menu, this area may host Menu ads (see menu ads), polls or a variety of other elements within Linear Publishing.

When designing the Vertical Menu area you will have access to the full suite of design tools. Primary values include width and status. Using colors, images, margins, padding and borders you create the appearance of the Vertical Menu area.

Our site does not employ a vertical menu. See Smileypete.com or heyregion.com for client examples.

Live Page
This defines the portion of your site which most often changes as visitors click through to various pages. Primary values include spacing and margins. Once again, using colors, images, margins, padding and borders you define the appearance of this area.

Rails
Typically, Linear web sites have two rails along the right side. Please note that the rails can be disabled, split along the left and right of the Live Page (see above), run along the left side or limited to a single rail.

Typically, the combined rails will feature space above and/or below for large box ads (300 to 336 pixels in width). Primary values include width. Once again, using colors, images, margins, padding and borders you define the appearance of each side rail.

Live Area
This portion of your Linear site is used for showing displaying the dynamic content of the requested page. Primary values include minimum height, margins and background. Once again, using colors, images, margins, padding and borders you define the appearance of this area.

Examples
These links will show this page on some different configurations within this Linear site. We aren't artist, but we hope the examples illustrate the design flexibility of our solution.
