Wal-Mart to close 64 stores for Rita
Retailer says over 100 facilities are within a 120-mile radius of Rita's expected landfall location

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Thursday said 23 stores and distribution centers were closed in anticipation of Hurricane Rita, and 64 locations were likely to be shut by evening.

The world's biggest retailer said more than 100 facilities were within a 120-mile radius of where Rita is expected to make landfall near Galveston, Texas.

Wal-Mart (Research), which has more than 3,500 U.S. stores, had closed 126 locations when Hurricane Katrina battered the Gulf Coast late last month. Most of those have reopened, but nine stores were severely damaged.

The retailer said it had already shipped 154 trailers carrying more than 620,000 gallons of water in preparation for Hurricane Rita, and 24 generators were staged at Sealy, Texas. Some 42 facilities were prepared to accept dry ice.

    The dollar always rules

These people are in a bad way - and Walmart closes 64 stores to maintain their profitability! Why not keep the stores open and stock them to the hilt with the many things needed for a recovery. It might not be the most profitable, but the corporate good will - and basic human kindness - might go a long way with Walmart's tarnished image.

smiley peteFor a small publishing company, with large amounts of content, wanting to make an impressive charge into cyberspace, without prior web-publishing experience, Linear Publishing delivered everything we needed, and even options we didn't know existed, in a quick and effective manner.

Linear's staff worked with us to make sure we had the site we wanted, and the software provided is easy and vast for continuous changes and improvements.

Within a month of launching, the results have already gone well beyond hopes and expectations. I recommend Linear Publishing as far as somebody is allowed to make a recommendation.
