Remote Author Tools

Remote Author Tools

April 13, 2012 | 07:30 AM

Enhanced our remote author tools. These allow writers/reporters to submit content to the web site through an interface optimized for smart phones (i.e. iphones, droids). Individual writers are assigned a username/password and given specific permissions, Enhancements include:
  • Post Permission: individual writers may be permissioned to immediately post content to the web site. Other writer submissions might be held for review and approval.

  • Editing Previous Submissions: individual writers can be permissioned to access and edit stories which have already been placed on the web site. If allowed, the writer can search/list stories he has submitted for editing.

  • Templates: Assign an editorial Template to a writer. When adding editorial through the remote interface, the defaults from the template (i.e. section, column, recurring visuals, site tags, inclusions, etc.) will be included.

  • Publish Changes: Allow the remote author to update the website after completing changes.

  • Call Element Assignment: Assign specific Editorial Call Elements to the writer which will update for the writer.

  • Upload Images: The writer can included images through the remote entry system! Once a story has been added, simply click to add an image and the remote interface will allow the writer to select from photos on the mobile device for images to be included with the story.

  • Pull Quotes: The interface allows the writer to include a pull quote.

  • Preview: The mobile interface includes a preview link for each story added.
  • The remote author access is completely secure. Only authorized usernames/passwords can gain access. Even then, the writer will be limited to permissions assigned to his account which can only be changed through the main management system.

times newspapersWhen we realized we needed to upgrade our Web site, we knew we could not do it alone. Linear Publishing more than answered the call. All the new features we were looking for were already in place at Linear. In addition, if we came up with a feature not yet available, they created it.

We now publish two Web sites a week in less time than it took us to publish one. The free time has opened me up to explore new ideas and features to use on our site. It's a great feeling when you can get an idea and in no time have it up and running online. Thanks to it's ease of use, our Web site is getting better and better every day.

We are always getting compliments from our readers and advertisers. With help from Linear Publishing, we are becoming the e-voice of the community that we were striving for.
