Upload vs. Reverse Publishing

Linear Publishing takes two very different approaches to your classifieds -- depending on your needs.

Classifieds Import
Most frequently, we'll configure Linear Publishing to "import" your classifieds. This means that you will output a file from your classified print system (Baseview, CAMS, etc.) That file is then uploaded to your Web site. Sixty seconds later your classifieds are fully published in lightning fast HTML files and fully searchable.

How does it work? Essentially, Linear Publishing analyzes your file by building a directory of classified categories, subcategories and dividing the classified ads into separate records. From there, the system creates the directory pages based on the classifieds you are running for the current issue. You'll never have a classified category without ads.

For broad categories such as "Services," Linear Publishing will build sub-directories that allow your Web visitors to drill down to the information they want. With each classified category, Linear Publishing will include a convenient pull-down menu that jumps to the other classified categories.

Best of all, you may designate any classified category (i.e. Help Wanted) to appear on a custom page with custom, rotating Internet ads. A great marketing tool to increase your Internet real estate for placing ads.

Whatever classified system you employ, Linear Publishing should be able to import those

Reverse Publishing
For publications without a print classified system (folks typing the classified ads directly into Quark or Word), Linear Publishing offers reverse publishing. This means that you will enter your classifieds directly onto the Web site, then export the classifieds from the Internet into a Quark file for inclusion in your print publication. The exported file will be sorted to your tastes and include stylesheet information for Quark. You can move classifieds from the Internet to the print product in about 60 seconds!

As you enter individual classifieds, you'll be able to designate the number of insertions, Till Further Notice (TFN) status, cost -- even differentiate between word and display classifieds. While Linear Publishing cannot export a display classified, it will insert code identifying the location to insert the display ad.

On the Internet, your classifieds will be fully searchable and always up to date. Each night our system will automatically update your classifieds to show the current set.

Quotes
times newspapersWhen we realized we needed to upgrade our Web site, we knew we could not do it alone. Linear Publishing more than answered the call. All the new features we were looking for were already in place at Linear. In addition, if we came up with a feature not yet available, they created it.

We now publish two Web sites a week in less time than it took us to publish one. The free time has opened me up to explore new ideas and features to use on our site. It's a great feeling when you can get an idea and in no time have it up and running online. Thanks to it's ease of use, our Web site is getting better and better every day.

We are always getting compliments from our readers and advertisers. With help from Linear Publishing, we are becoming the e-voice of the community that we were striving for.
