Ceilings and Floors

Some sites like to offer fixed elements at along the top and/or bottom of the site for important "ready-to-go" links and elements. We call these "Ceilings" which span the top of the page and "Floors" spanning the bottom.

Usually, Ceilings and Floors have a "sticky" quality where they do not scroll with the page - they are always visible. In the case of Ceilings, you can remove the "sticky" so the element scrolls with the page.

In addition to important links, Ceilings and Floors can include complex elements for searching, sharing, etc. This site features a Ceiling on every page with links to "Share" the page, an email interface to send a link to the page, "Breadcrumbs" allowing the user to go back several pages during their visit, a custom Google Site Search.

Each linear site has total control over the use, content and appearance of their Ceilings and Floors. You can have multiple Ceilings and Floors where you can "switch" them out at will.

This page features a Floor in addition to the site-wide ceiling. For lack of originality, the floor features many of the main links from our menu along with some "scrolling" content.

Other interesting ideas the Ceiling and Floor content include:
  • Site Sponsorships.

  • Breaking News

  • Current Contests

  • Featured Businesses

times newspapersWhen we realized we needed to upgrade our Web site, we knew we could not do it alone. Linear Publishing more than answered the call. All the new features we were looking for were already in place at Linear. In addition, if we came up with a feature not yet available, they created it.

We now publish two Web sites a week in less time than it took us to publish one. The free time has opened me up to explore new ideas and features to use on our site. It's a great feeling when you can get an idea and in no time have it up and running online. Thanks to it's ease of use, our Web site is getting better and better every day.

We are always getting compliments from our readers and advertisers. With help from Linear Publishing, we are becoming the e-voice of the community that we were striving for.
